What is a Part P and a Part P Electrician?

Part P was introduced in 2005 and relates directly to electrical safety in domestic dwellings. Because of this, most fixed electrical installation work in homes must, by law, meet the Building Regulations. Your Local-Authority (Building Control) will need to be notified prior to most electrical works commencing and a fee will be applied for inspections and testing, which the customer will be liable for. Costs may vary from one Local Authority to another.

In April 2013 further changes were introduced, reducing the range of electrical installation work that is notifiable - removing some requirements in kitchens and outdoors.​
